Bjelovar is one of the youngest cities in continental Croatia, founded in 1756 by order of Empress Maria Theresa to be the center of the military border. Located in the heart of Bilogora, the city has grown over the centuries into a modern, open, and welcoming place.

Today, Bjelovar is known as a city of events, culture, sports, and education, hosting numerous festivals, fairs, and musical and sporting events throughout the year. The city has earned the title of the most cordial city in Croatia.
